About the Facility

River Oaks Treatment Center provides a variety of services to our patients struggling with addiction, including (but not limited to):

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

River Oaks Treatment Center may or may not utilize MAT to help you or your loved one recover from a substance use disorder and remain sober. MAT is a choice that you and your treatment team make together. This offering at River Oaks may include naltrexone or the extended-release version of naltrexone (called the Vivitrol shot).

Co-occurring Mental Health Disorder Treatment

Clinicians (such as therapists and psychiatrists) at River Oaks are fully equipped to treat patients with underlying mental health disorders. If you suffer from a co-occurring disorder, your physician may suggest you try certain behavioral or medicinal therapies to help aid in the alleviation of your mental health condition symptoms.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy sessions are typically one hour in duration and held at least weekly with a patient’s primary therapist. Greenhouse clinicians employ a variety of different treatment modalities, such cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT).

Group Therapy

Group therapy sessions may occur around 7 times per week and are led by a trained clinician. Group therapy at River Oaks may include CBT process groups, therapeutic curriculum-based groups, expressive and experiential therapy groups, wellness education facilitated by nurses, psychoeducational groups.

Trauma Therapy

EMDR is a specialized therapy for clients suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Patients must attain physician and therapist approval to determine that they are ready for this level of intensive work.

Family Support and Therapy

For patients who would like to integrate their family in their treatment plan, River Oaks offers a monthly family program and regular family therapy. Additional family programming is available every first and third Saturday of the month, and families can visit patients on Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Veterans Affairs (VA) Community Care Partner

River Oaks is a VA Community Care Partner. We work with clients assigned by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Local VA to meet patients’ needs.

Recovery Groups & Peer Support Meetings

Another offering at River Oaks Treatment Center includes recovery groups such as 12-step meetings or SMART recovery meetings. 3 times a week, River Oaks also offers eligible patients the ability to go to an off-site 12-step meeting with their peers.

Genetics-Informed Addiction Treatment

River Oaks utilizes pharmacogenetics – a practice that uses the knowledge of an individual’s genetic makeup to decide which medications will be most effective for them while in treatment. River Oaks utilizes AAC’s Addiction Labs of America to receive genetic tests within 24 hours and integrates this patient-specific knowledge into individual treatment plans.

Culturally Competent Treatment

At River Oaks, we offer various treatments that cater to underserved groups. We host a weekly LGBTQI group and can provide individual counseling services in both English and Spanish (though group sessions in Spanish are not available). This, along with two monthly opportunities and outings for family visits, translates to you and your loved ones feeling supported during your stay at River Oaks.

Facility Staff

At River Oaks, our treatment team of professionals consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and LPNs, licensed and license-eligible therapists, case managers, behavioral health technicians, and an operations team.

Jeff Turiczek, CEO

For three decades, Jeff Turiczek has dedicated his career to the behavioral healthcare industry working his way up from a mental health technician to key leadership roles in several hospitals and treatment facilities. Prior to joining the American Addiction Centers (AAC) family in 2015, Turiczek served on the Executive Board of the Florida Juvenile Justice Association helping shape behavioral healthcare laws in the state for juveniles in the criminal system. He also assisted in crafting critical administrative rules aimed at protecting children with behavioral healthcare issues.

Struggling with the same addiction issues that plagued his family as a young person, Turiczek realized his passion for behavioral healthcare early on in his life and, as a result, pursued a career in addiction treatment. Since then, he’s worked to break the stigma of addiction in his professional endeavors through sharing his personal experience and educating others about the disease of addiction.

Today, Turiczek serves as the Chief Executive Officer of River Oaks Treatment Center located near Tampa, Florida, where he oversees the facility’s operations and staff ensuring each patient is provided compassionate, high-quality care. When he’s not working to transform lives, Turiczek enjoys spending quality time with his family, which includes a daughter in college and a son in high school.

Dr. Michael Murphy, Medical Director

With over 20 years of clinical experience in psychiatry, Dr. Michael Murphy is a valuable asset to the West Florida community and American Addiction Centers’ (AAC) family. Prior to joining AAC in 2018, Dr. Murphy served as the National Medical Director at Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) Behavioral Health Services and, over the course of 12 years, held several leadership positions for a number of psychiatric hospitals and medical centers in Tennessee.

Dr. Murphy is a renowned expert in the diagnosis and treatment of major mental illness and substance abuse disorders with extensive experience leading initiatives in patient safety, violence prevention, integrated care and medical comorbidity. Additionally, Dr. Murphy authored Blueprints in Psychiatry, a textbook for medical students with the 6th edition scheduled to be published in 2018. Dr. Murphy also served on the faculty of Harvard Medical School’s Consolidated Department of Psychiatry and as the medical director of the Appleton long-term treatment program at Mclean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, for 8 years.

Dr. Murphy’s strong interest in trauma, mood disorders and substance-use disorders is exemplified through his clinical care using a combination of sound psychiatric reasoning and a positive relational spirit. Today, Dr. Murphy oversees the clinical team at River Oaks and ensures each patient is provided compassionate, high-quality care that will help set them on the path to long-term recovery.
