Recovery First is a strong proponent of the field known as pharmacogenetics, which uses the knowledge of an individual’s genetic makeup to inform what medications will be most effective for them in addiction treatment. Recovery First utilizes AAC’s Addiction Labs of America to get genetic tests within 24-hours, and integrates the knowledge into individual treatment plans.
Specialized Groups for Specific Needs
In addition to informing treatment with genetics, Recovery First ensures that each patient receives a personalized plan, filled with relevant individual and group therapies. Special populations get the support they need with an in-house trauma track and first responder’s program, along with a veteran’s program.
Co-occurring Mental Health Disorders
By using an integrated treatment approach, Recovery First’s expert clinicians are able to treat a variety of secondary and co-occurring mental health disorders, such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and bipolar disorder.
Accreditations
Recovery First is accredited by The Joint Commission for Behavioral Health Care, an internationally-recognized symbol of healthcare quality and the gold standard of care for the industry. This accreditation signifies that, through external, unbiased evaluation, we have met or exceeded The Joint Commission’s standards for providing addiction treatment for all of the levels of care offered, including high acuity medical detox.
About the Facility
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy sessions are typically one hour in duration and offered once per week with the patient’s primary therapist. A variety of different treatment modalities are used but not limited to motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is reserved for those who have been in treatment for some time and whose physician and therapist agree that this intensive level of work is appropriate for the patient.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
MAT combines pharmacotherapy with counseling and behavioral therapeutic approaches to treat substance use disorders such as alcohol use disorder and opioid use disorder. The program primarily prescribes Naltrexone.
Group Therapy
Group therapy sessions are one hour in length and occur 3 to 6 times a day, 7 days a week. Some of our group therapy offerings include:
- Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
- Pain management groups.
Process groups
Process groups may include anything from acclimating someone to the program to letting them know therapists’ schedules, the therapy structure, and more. In these process groups, the therapist is the one that decides the topic to be discussed depending on the patient’s needs, allowing a free-flowing structure and a focus on topics the therapist and patient feel are important.
Alternative Psycho-Educational, Supportive, & Expressive Therapies
Additional therapeutic interventions are offered to support your overall care and wellbeing. A few of our noteworthy offerings include:
- Music therapy.
- Art therapy.
- Mindfulness.
- Yoga.
Rehabs.com 360 Guides provide an objective evaluation of all that a treatment facility has to offer. These guides leverage proprietary data and offers relevant information to support individuals’ decisions to choose the treatment center right for them.
Facility Staff
At Recovery First, our professional treatment team includes board-certified psychiatrists, case managers, therapists, an attending physician, behavioral health technicians, biomedical techs, and licensed vocational nurses. Master’s level therapists (LPC, LCSW, LMSW) lead experiential therapies. Our clinical team is staffed with master-level professionals and certified substance abuse counselors.
Approximately 40% of Recovery First’s staff members are in recovery, so they understand firsthand what it’s like to battle addiction and thrive in recovery.
This gives the staff a level of compassion and empathy that is evident throughout the treatment process. Several staff members are fluent in Spanish, including one who is also a veteran. This therapist started a group specifically for Spanish-speaking veterans.

Programming
The family program is held twice a month two days a week, always on Fridays and Saturdays. Family members learn about the science of addiction and gain a better understanding of the concept of addiction as a disease. Therapists also participate in individual family work in the afternoon.
Visiting Your Loved One
While visits are not permitted while a patient is in detox, due largely to the volatile nature of the procedure, Recovery First encourages family to visit during the residential and inpatient phases of treatment. Family programming is held twice a month, on select Fridays and Saturdays. During your loved one’s treatment, we can work with you to plan a visit. Your loved one’s treatment team will provide you with all of the information you need to schedule your visit.
