What Will Beacon Health Options Insurance Cover?
What your Beacon Health Options plan covers will depend on your specific plan. Each plan will differ in the levels of coverage for behavioral and substance use disorder services it provides. Some addiction treatment services that could be covered under your Beacon Health Options plan may include:
- Inpatient or residential rehab. With inpatient or residential rehab programs, a patient stays at a facility for the duration of their care, where they’ll receive round-the-clock medically supervised addiction treatment.2, Pg 8, “What types of treatment programs are available?” Para 2,
- Outpatient rehab or therapy. With outpatient rehab programs, a patient will attend care 1-2 times a week at a facility, but they won’t stay overnight. The care administered at these types of programs typically involves counseling or therapy sessions.2, Pg 10, Para 2
- Intensive outpatient programs. With IOPs, there is typically more structure than standard outpatient programs. Patients generally must attend a minimum number of hours of addiction treatment each week, usually about 9 hours, but treatment programs may vary based on your situation.2, Pg 10, Para 3
- Partial hospitalization programs. With PHPs, patients typically attend care at a facility for 4-8 hours per day, which is why PHPs may be referred to as day programs. Treatment typically extends to multiple days a week, but no overnight stay is required.2, Pg 10, Para 1
Even though these are common addiction treatment methods, they may not be the right option for you, and it’s not guaranteed that your plan will cover the costs of such treatment. Be sure to verify your Beacon Health Options coverage before seeking care for your substance use disorder whenever possible.
Does Beacon Health Options Insurance Cover Mental Health Treatment Facilities?
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), almost all U.S. health insurance companies are required to provide some level of coverage for mental and behavioral health services.3 However, because Beacon Health Options isn’t a specific health insurance plan, it is not regulated by the ACA. This doesn’t mean that it doesn’t provide coverage for mental health treatment facilities, though.
Beacon Health Options specializes in providing behavioral health care service management and access. It works with your existing health insurance plan to manage your behavioral health care services, which can include stand-alone rehab treatment and co-occurring disorder treatment.4
A co-occurring disorder is when someone experiences both a substance use disorder and mental illness simultaneously.5 About 17 million U.S. adults experienced a co-occurring disorder in 2020, which means it’s incredibly common.5
Although it’s not believed that 1 condition can directly cause the other, those with a mental illness are 2 times as likely to experience substance use disorder and vice versa.6 Most mental health professionals agree that an integrated treatment approach, where each condition is treated separately but at the same time, is the best course of treatment for co-occurring disorders.5
Beacon Health Plan provides members with tailored behavioral health care management programs, valuable resources, and 24-hour clinical support services. They can help coordinate the care you may need at mental health facilities near you.
How Long Does Beacon Health Options Insurance Cover Rehab?
The length of time that your Beacon Health Options plan covers rehab will vary and may be subject to limits set forth by your BHO plan or your health insurance plan. Because there are many different types of policies and tiers of coverage, the length of time covered by the insurance provider will depend upon your specific plan.
Checking your insurance coverage is recommended before seeking treatment whenever possible. You can do this by calling the number on the back of your Beacon Health Options insurance card and speaking to a representative who can explain your benefits to you.
It’s important to note that what your recommended addiction treatment is and what’s covered under your Beacon Health Option mental health coverage may vary. It’s important to stay the course of your provider’s recommended treatment plan. Remaining in treatment for long enough greatly affects the overall success of your rehab program.7
While every patient’s journey is unique, most experts recommend that treatment should last at least 3 months to improve overall outcomes and reduce or stop drug use.7 Be sure to talk to your provider to discuss what may be right for you.
What if My Beacon Health Options policy Does Not Cover Rehab?
If your health plan or Beacon Health Options does not cover your rehab costs, you may still have payment options. Depending on the rehab facility you choose to attend, there may be scholarship options or financing opportunities available to you to help offset the costs of getting the care you need. Regardless of the cost, it’s important to prioritize getting care now instead of pushing it down the road.
Beacon Health Options In-Network vs. Out-of-Network Rehab Centers
Many health plans work with a network of providers, and if your plan has a network, you may be required or encouraged to receive care from an in-network provider. A network plan works with providers to enter a contract, where the providers agree to provide their mental health care services to covered plan members at a lower price.8 Out-of-network providers are those who are not contracted with your Beacon Health Options plan.
Depending on your specific plan, out-of-network providers may not be covered, which means you could be responsible for all the costs of care. It’s best to check with Beacon Health Options or the rehab center directly to determine whether your plan covers out-of-network providers and how to locate an in-network provider near you.
